Export general manifest (EGM)

Definition:

Export general manifest (EGM) is a document which needs to be filed by the carrier at custom department declaring all the details of the goods ready for export.

The carrier (liner, vessel agent, aircraft) has to prepare a declaration with the details of all consignments loaded into vessel or aircraft and submit those details at customs before departure of vessel or aircraft which is known as export general manifest or EGM in short.

Filling of EGM is necessary in order to ensure all goods which are being taken out of the country have gone through proper export clearance procedures and all customs formalities are completed, EGM can be considered as the proof of export.

1. Rotation no.
2. Vessel name
3. Vessel flag 
4. Captain's name
5. Shipper's details 
6. Consignee details
7. Shipping bill no.
8. Description of goods
9. Marks & numbers
10. Date of arrival
11. Vessel's store list which includes information of explosives, currencies, wireless apparatus, drugs, mineral oils, arms and ammunition, alcohol & tobacco products etc.
12. Details of all crew members e.g. their name, designation, currency, cheque, jewelry etc.

Difference between EGM & Shipping bill:

Shipping bill is the document which has to be filed at customs by a CHA on behalf of it's exporter in order to clear the cargo for export. Shipping bill contains the details of exporter/shipper, consignee, buyer, description of goods, invoice no, invoice value, packing Port of loading, port of discharge etc. for a particular consignment. Shipping bill is filled at time of export clearance.

But EGM is the document which has to be filed by the carrier at customs before departure of vessel or aircraft. EGM contains details information of all the goods as well as the crew members going to depart along with the vessel or aircraft, basically EGM contains the details of all the consignments loaded into the carrier.
