Inbound Logistics

Bringing anything into a company/ factory and storing the same is known as inbound logistics.

Procurement of raw materials, machine tools & components, office supplies etc. comes under inbound logistics.

Process: Procurement department will issue RFQ, based on that vendors will share the quotation after finalizing one quotation procurement team will share Purchase order to the vendor. Vendor will share ex-factory date in case of ex-works orders, logistics team will place vehicle at vendor's factory for loading. In some cases vendors arrange their vehicle and deliver the goods at customer's premises, deliver term is decided at the time of negotiation. Once cargo arrives warehouse team will arrange to store the cargo and inform concerned teams. The goods will be allotted to different departments as per the requirement. 

If you want to say it in formal way, you can describe it as:

The transportation, storage & delivery of goods from outside (vendors/suppliers) to a business is known as inbound logistics.


Factors which needs attention in inbound logistics:
1) Relationship with vendors
2) Maintain proper quality of the material within the budget 
3) Order raw materials when required in order to minimize storage cost
4) Transportation management
5) Safe storage in order to maintain the quality
