Difference between Supply chain & logistics management

Logistics: Logistics is the process of moving materials, services, people, equipment from one place to another place in right time.

Logistic Management: Logistics management is the process of planning, implementing & controlling the forward & reverse movement of materials, services, people, equipment from one place to another as per customer's requirement effectively & efficiently. Logistics management also includs the process of warehouse management & inventory control.

Supply chain management: Supply chain management (SCM) is not only about the physical movement of goods, it is much more than that. It  is a chain of activities involved in the process of manufacturing of a product to delivering that product to the end user, it starts from procurement of raw materials and last mile delivery at customer's place. The goal of Supply chain management is to establist and maintain a effective supply chain network which includes all stakeholders, such as suppliers, distributors, retailers, transporters, vendors and customers in order to achieve the customer satisfaction with the maximum efficiency.

How Logistics differs from Supply chain:

1. The basic difference between logistics and supply chain management is logistics management is the process of storing, delivering & returning of goods where supply chain management is the complete process of order processing, manufacturing and delivering of goods to customer. Logistics management is the part of supply chain management.


2. Logistics management is the older concept and the supply chain management is the modern concept.

3. The objective of supply chain management is to focus on competitive advantages on the other hand objective of logistics management is to focuses on customer satisfaction.
